Materia Medica in Arabic & Persian, Shirazy, 1793

They are generally warm, aromatic and thin. They relieve Wind, relax, and are anodyne. They are primarily used for Colic, Bloating and Griping, but also for the pain of Stones and Menstrual pain. They tend to relax the Nerves and Muscles.

Carminative medicines are classed in TCM as medicines which move or regulate Qi. When Qi is blocked, there is tension or distension in muscles, tendons or organs. Muscular or Organ function may be effected.

Qi stagnation often has emotional connections and chronic Qi stagnation can lead to Blood stagnation.
