WESTERN CLASSIFICATION of the MATERIA MEDICA
2W. SARCOTICS
Remove the Foulness in Wounds to promote Flesh
Sarcotics remove what is hindering the growth of healthy flesh in Wounds and Ulcers. Oftetimes, Sarcotic is defined as a “Medicine that promotes the growth of Flesh”. However, in medicine these are known as Incarnatives (next category). Sarcotics in this case focus on removing what’s hindering the growth of healthy flesh. Some medicines share both qualities and both groups are often used together, although if the Wound or Ulcer is very foul, they must be cleansed before applying Incarnatives to promote Flesh growth.
The matter inhibiting healthy growth of flesh is of two kinds: thin fluid which oozes or seeps out of the tissues; the other a thick, gross and filthy matter that causes foul non-healing Ulcers. The first requires drying medicines, the latter, cleansing medicines. They are often combined with medicines that Expel Pus.
