Preparation:

Prepared as Powder or Pills

Function:

Clears Liver Heat

Use:

General for Heat diseases of Liver, and Bile diseases.
“Particularly effective for blood accumulation in the Liver and Liver heat”.
1. Liver Heat, Liver Fever
2. Trauma to the Liver with stabbing pain over Liver
3. Bad Blood in the Liver; Blood disorders

4. Hepatitis, Liver Inflammation or swelling
5. Cirrhosis
6. ‘Brown Phlegm’
disorder

Dose:

500–1500mg twice daily with warm water.
Some versions list 2–3 grams as a dose, presumably because a lower dose of Bezoar is used.

Cautions:

1. Not used during Pregnancy
2. Caution due to Birthwort. OTC versions of this medicine may contain Birthwort. A suitable substitute should be used (see Aristolchia), or it can be omitted.

Modifications:

1. A suitable substitute for Birthwort should be used.
2. When combined with Garuda 5 (Khyung lnga) it is used for diseases with heat and inflammation following trauma, for heat diseases of the Liver., and Bile disorders This formula is called Gi Khyung (Bezoar Garuda).
3. When taken with Sandalwood 8 (Tsan dan brgyad pa), it forms Gi Tsan. Used for Fever, severe thirst, cough with blood and pus, shortness of Breath, stabbing pains in the chest from Lung Heat
4. Taken with equal parts of Swertia 8 (Tig ta brgyad pa) it forms a formula called Gi Tig. Used for Heat of the Liver and Gall Bladder with stabbing pain over the Gall Bladder, bitter taste, headache, yellowing of the eyes.
