Preparation:

Burn in a pot under ashes. It is better to burn in a sealed or covered pot. Then grind to powder and keep.

Function:

Promotes Urine, Resists Poison

Use:

1. Edema
2. Small Pox

3. Cancer

Dose:

1⁄2–1 dram in a suitable vehicle

Cautions:

None noted

Modifications:


‘It prevails also against Cancers, being given for some time inwardly, and outwardly applied to the Ulcer: it absorbs the Corrosive Acid, and destroys the malignity … you may give it from half–1 dram against Malignant diseases, in some proper Sudorific and Alexipharmic vehicle, at night going to bed’. (Salmon, Pharmacopoeia Bateana, 1700)
