Long Pepper

Piper longum

Clove

Eugenia caryophyllus

6 grains ea.

Preparation:

Powder; divide into 6 doses. It was commonly kept whole and powdered as required to avoid loss of the volatile oils, hence the small doses given. It can also be kept in the form of an Electuary.

Function:

Moves the Qi, clears Cold and Damp

Use:

1. Wind-Colic
2. Bloating
3. Digestive weakness due to Wind and Cold or Wind and Phlegm.
4. Hernias associated with Wind

Dose:

the above is divided into 6 equal doses; a dose can be taken after each meal. If taken by weight, the dose is 1–2 scruples.

Cautions:

None noted

Modifications:

If the Qi is weak, Elecampane and Licorice can be added
