Mace

Myristica fragrans

Aloeswood

Aquillaria agallocha

1⁄2 dram ea.

Chicken Gizzard skin *

Gigeriae galli endothelium corneum

3 drams

White Sugar

Saccharum

34 oz.

* Chicken Gizzard skin is washed in wine, then dried.

Preparation:

Boil the Sugar with wine to form a thick syrup, then add the rest in Powder to from a Confection.

Function:

Warms and strengthens the Stomach, benefits Digestion, clears Food Stagnation

Use:

1. Indigestion
2. Food Stagnation
3. Stomach Pain
4. Cold-Damp type Diarrhea.
5. May also be useful for Malabsorption and disorders associated with Poor Nutrition

Dose:

1⁄2–1 dram, twice daily with warm water, taken with Food for poor digestion, after food for Food Stagnation

Comment:

Chicken Gizzard skin is used in TCM to promote Digestion and clear Food Stagnation. Here, it is used for similar purposes.

Cautions:

None noted

Modifications:

1. This amount of Sugar is excessive, it can be reduced. Of course Honey could be used instead.
2. A similar compound with Chicken Gizzard skin used 10 drams of the Gizzard with similar proportions of other ingredients to that given above.
