Preparation:
Grind all into a course powder; it may be prepared as a Decoction
Function:
Nourishes Yin, clears Heat (Deficient-Heat)
Use:
Used for Heat from deficiency, with Fever, Night Sweats, dry Mouth and lips, irritability, and dark-colored, scanty Urine. Tongue is dry and dry, pulse is rapid, or rapid and weak.
1. Chronic Fever or Febrile Disease
2. Chronic Bronchitis
3. Abnormal or Spontaneous or Night Sweating
4. Tuberculosis; Consumption
5. Silicosis
6. Hyperthyroidism
7. Psoriasis
8. Myocarditis
9. Thrombocytopenic Purpura
10. Nephritis
11. Chronic or Recurring Urinary Tract Infection
Dose:
If decocted, the above can be used over the course of a day.
Traditionally, 15 grams of the powder is taken as a draft before meals. It can be taken as Pills
Cautions:
Caution in poor digestion
Modifications:
1. More severe Yin deficiency with Tidal Fever, add Anemarrhena Zhi Mu and Tortoise Plastron Gui Ban
2. Patients with Yin Deficiency but no strong Heat or Fire, remove Scutellaria Huang Qin, Coptis Huang Lian and Phellodendron Huang Bai, and add Scrophularia Xuan Shen and Ophiopogon Mai Men Dong.
3. More severe Toxic Heat with Constipation, add Rhubarb root. This is a good addition, especially if the formula is used in powder form.
