Althea officinalis

4 oz.

Raisins, stoned

Vitis vinifera

2 oz.

Preparation:

Boil gently in 7 pints down to 5 pints, strain, allow to cool and settle, then decant the clear.

Function:

Clears Heat, soothes Irritation, nourishes Yin, increases Qi

Use:

1. Heat and Irritation of the Throat or Lungs; acute sore Throat, acute Cough
2. Heat and Irritation of the Urinary system; Cystitis

Dose:

small cupful morning and night

Cautions:

None noted

Modifications:

1. Cough from Heat, add Ribwort Plantain and Licorice
2. Chronic Cough with Blood, add Comfrey and Licorice
3. Spasmodic Cough, add Aniseed and Thyme
4. Cystitis with Heat and Irritation, add Barley
