Patala Stereospermum suaveolens
Kashmiri Gmelina arborea
Agnimantha Clerodendron phlomoidis

Preparation:

Form a coarse powder. One part is decocted in 16 parts of water (by weight) until 4 parts remain

Function:

Regulates Qi, Settles Wind, Clears Heat, Stops Cough and Wheezing

Use:

Special for Vata/Wind diseases with pain and/or debility
1. Dry Cough
2. Asthma (from Vata/Wind)
3. Pain (caused by Vata/Wind) with Debility
4. Lower Back Pain and Sciatica (internally or in enema)
5. Pelvic inflammation (internally or in enema)
6. Parkinson’s Disease
7. Fever, especially with debility

Dose:

50 mls of the decoction twice daily, usually with Long Pepper powder

Cautions:

Not used during Pregnancy

Modifications:

1`. Substitutes or Adulterants are often used as some of the medicines are difficult to obtain today. Sometimes the stem, leaf, fruit or flower of some of the plants are used in place of the roots, and in other places, acceptable substitutes are used.
2. Add Tulsi (Sacred Basil) for Fever
3. Add Adhatoda and Trikatu (Three Pungents) for Cough and Asthma

Dasamula, or the Ten Roots, is a combination of the roots of “Five Big Trees” (used for Vata-Kapha [Wind-Phlegm]) and the roots of “Five Small Trees” (used for Vata-Pitta [Wind-Heat]).. It is often added to other formulas.
