2 drams ea.

Preparation:

Beat the herbs well together, dissolve the gums in wine, then form an Electuary with sufficient clarified Honey.

Function:

Warms the Stomach and Intestines, clears Wind, Eases Pain

Use:

1. Wind, Colic
2. Stomach and Intestinal Spasm and Pain
3. May be useful for Irritable Bowel, Crohn’s disease etc.
4. Tympanites (Fluid and Wind collecting in the abdomen)
5. “all diseases caused by Wind, provided they are without Heat”

Dose:

1⁄2–1 dram, or as much as a Hazel nut with Wine; usually taken in the morning fasting. Also used in enemas.

Cautions:

Not used in Heat conditions.

Modifications:

1. The basic theme of this formula can be recreated today with the omission of Castoreum.

This is a variation of Electuary of Bayberries (Electuarium de Baccis Lauri) which is far more commonly used. The biggest different is the increase in Rue and the use of a larger dose of Gum Ammoniac in place of Opopanax.
