Ground Pine & Germander

Germander is warm, dry and bitter, cuts, attenuates, Promotes Urine and Sweat, and Moves the Blood and eases Pain. It clears Damp, and promotes Urine and Menstruation.
    
Ground Pine is Warm, Dry, cuts and opens, strengthens the Nerves, Promotes Urine, and was specifically used for Gout and Arthritic complaints.
    
Together, both herbs are very cleansing, and specifically clear Damp and settle Wind, and therefore resolve Arthritic and Rheumatic diseases.
    
In addition, Ground Pine was listed as a substitute for Germander by various authorities, especially in the making of Mithridtae and Venetian Theriac, showing their similar nature and virtue.

Mithridate, Theriac, Syrup of Mugwort, Arthritic Electuary, Arthritic Wine, Pills of Spurge, Extract for Arthritis, Martiate Ointment

Additions

1. Arthritis, add Sage, Rosemary, Mistletoe, Lily of the Valley, Guaiacum, China root (Arthritc Wine)
2. Arthritis, add Colchicum, Turbith, St. John’s wort seed, Sage, Rosemary, Anise, Fennel (as in Extract for Arthritis)
3. Serious Edema and Arthritis from severe Damp, add prepared Small Spurge root-bark, torrefied Castor seed, (Yellow) Chebulic Myrobalan, Spikenard, Cinnamon (Pills of Spurge)
