Bai Shao (White Peony)

Paeonia lactiflora

6 grams

Ji Dan (Egg Yolks)

Vitellus

2 (in number)

E Jiao (Ass Gelatin)

Asini Colla

9 grams

Preparation:

Decoct the herb in 4 bowels of water down to 2, strain and dissolve in the Gelatin while hot, adding the beaten Egg yolks to the warm decoction.

Function:

Clears Deficient Heat, Nourishes Yin, Calms the Spirit

Use:

Deficient Heat with Irritability,. Insomnia, Palpitations with Anxiety, Red tongue with a dry yellowish coat, Thin and Rapid Pulse
1. Neurasthenia
2. Nervous Exhaustion
3. Palpitations with Anxiety
4. Insomnia with Anxiety and Restlessness
5. Convalesence after Febrile Disease
6. Hyperternsion
7. Apthous Mouth Ulcers
8. Erectile Dysfunction

Dose:

The above is taken in 2 equal doses over the course of the day.

Cautions:

1. Not suitable in Cold diseases
2. Caution in weak digestion

Modifications:

1. Originally 12 grams of Coptis was ordered. Today usually 6–9 grams is used
2. Severe chronic Sore, Dry Throat, add Figwort (Xuan Shen), Ophiopogon Mai Men Dong
3. Heat in the “5 Centers” (Palms, Soles and Chest), add Gardenia Zhi Zi
