* Nux Vomica is prepared by being heated in sand until it swells, or otherwise prepared as shown in the Nux Vomica monograph
** Frankincense and Myrrh are stir fried with vinegar until aromatic.
Preparation:
Powder
Function:
Clears Stasis, moves Blood, reduces swelling and pain
Use:
1. Trauma of the Soft Tissue
2. Bruising and Swelling
3. Ligament or Tendon injury
4. Traumatic Bursitis
5. Fracture
6. Chronic Lower Back pain
7. Chronic Joint pain from Wind-Damp
8. Pain associated with Blood Stasis
Dose:
2–2 1⁄2 grams once daily, usually taken before bed. It may be mixed with wine to form a paste to be applied topically.
Cautions:
1. Toxic. Do not overdose.
2. Not used during Pregnancy.
3. Not suitable for the young
4. Not applied to broken skin
Modifications:
1. Trauma and Bruising, add Safflower and Dragon’s Blood
2. Chronic Lower Back pain, take with Eucommia Du Zhong.
3. Chronic Joint disease, take with Du Huo Ji Sheng Tang.
Hospital Trials in China have reported 74% effectiveness in the treatment of Bruises and Wind-Damp joint pain.
Another trial of Arthralgia showed effectiveness especially in those cases with stomach dysfunction. There was a marked increase in food intake in those individuals.
