TRADITIONAL INTERNAL MEDICINE – DISEASES & FORMULAS
Liver Inflammation, Hepatitis
Liver Inflammation or Hepatitis can be acute or chronic in nature. It can also be divided into Viral and Non-viral Hepatitis.
Acute Hepatitis comes from Damp-Heat obstruction caused by seasonal change, poor diet etc. It often comes with Jaundice which develops within a few days and makes the skin and eyes bright yellow.
Chronic Hepatitis can be caused by Toxin, such as from chronic alcohol abuse. It can also be due to Chronic Viral Hepatitis, of which there are a number of varieties.
In Traditional Medicine, bitter herbs are used in acute Damp-Heat Jaundice, and in TCM and the West, varioius species of Wormwood (Artemisia) are commonly used for this purpose. In Chronic cases, medicines to support the Liver and Spleen are used.
