Preparation:

Powder and form Pills (typicaly 200mg each)

Function:

Benefits Stomach, regulates Digestion

Use:

“Protects against heat and cold and restores the Heat of the Stomach”
“especially well increases the Fiery warmth of the stomach and promotes the growth of body tissues”
“used to treat diseases the course of which is accompanied by various vascular pathologies and changes in blood characteristics – strokes, diabetes, hemorrhoids”

Dose:

2–3 grams with hot water

Cautions:

1. Not suitable for cases with Stomach Yin deficiency
2. Diet should be light, avoiding alcohol, cold, spicy and greasy foods

Modifications:

1. Swap Ginger (or Galangal) for Safflower and is becomes Pomegranate 5.
2. Tsothel (Btso thal) (Black Sulphide of Mercury, prepared as an ash) is added for use in Cancer therapy, and for Diabetic complications. To 30 grams of Pomegranate 5 with Safflower, 5 grams is added for severe cases, 3 grams for moderate, or 1 gram for mild cases. This is called Dwans Btso.


The Pomegranate formulas are a staple of Tibetan Medicine. Compare with Pomegranate 5 which replaces Safflower with Ginger (or Galangal). The addition of Safflower supports the Liver to promote proper formation of the Humors, thereby helping digestion of nutrient to be transformed into proper nourishment.
