Cantharide, head & legs removed

Cantharis

1 scruple

Preparation:

Powder and add 1 dram Ammoniac dissolved in a little wine

Function:

Clears Damp, Opens Obstructions, promotes Urine

Use:

1. Retention of Urine, Strangury
2. Dysuria

Dose:

1⁄2–1 dram taken with Diuretic Decoction (or some other appropriate vehicle)

Cautions:

Avoid overdose. Cantharide is exceedingly irritating in excessive dose
