Preparation:

Powder. It can be made into an Electuary with Syrup of Violets.

Function:

Clears Heat, Nourishes Lung Yin, Stops Cough

Use:

1. Heat-type Cough
2. Asthma
3. Pleurisy
4. Consumption
5. Hemoptysis
6. Pain or Ulcers of the Stomach from Heat
7. Burning Urine
8. Strangury
9. Excessive Menstrual Bleeding
10. Some used it for Threatened Miscarriage
11. Some commended it for Melancholy

Dose:

1⁄2–1 dram, up to 2 drams
2 drams to 1⁄2 oz. of the Electuary.

Cautions:

None noted

Modifications:

1. The original of Haly didn’t contain Amber; it was a later addition.
2. In Consumption, take with Comfrey Syrup.
3. Stomach Ulcers, add Armenian Earth, Red coral, Hematite and Dragons blood
