Mastic

Pistacia lentiscus

Pomegranate peel

Punica granatum

1 dram ea.

Galangal

Alpina officinarum

1⁄2 dram

Preparation:

Powder and mix with clarified Honey to form a paste.

Function:

Strengthens the Stomach, benefits Digestion, clears Cold and Damp

Use:

1. Stomach weakness;
2. Digestive weakness or sensitivity associated with weakness and Damp;
3. may be useful for Gastrointestinal Ulcer

Dose:

as much as a Walnut; 1–2 drams

None noted

Comment:

‘It will procure a good stomach, and also preserve and keep the same from any evil humors to breed therein–This is an excellent medicine, often proved, and easy to be made’. This is an interesting formula as it uses Pomegranate peel; the peel or seed are often used for Digestive debility in Ayurveda and Tibetan Medicine.
