Warm. Sweet

Uses:

1. Nourish the Heart, Calm the Mind and Spirit:

-Anxiety, Restlessness; ‘Wind affecting the Heart’ (Tibetan Medicine)
-mental dullness from Wind affecting the Brain
-Mental disorders, Insanity

2. Settles Wind, Stops Spasms:

-“Epilepsy, Hysteric Fits, and vapors ascending to the Brain”  (West)
-Paralysis, Parkinson’s disease (Tibetan Medicine)
-Cerebral Ischemia, Numbness
-diseases caused by Evil Spirits that effect the mind (Tibetan Medicine)

3. Moves the Blood, Eases Pain:

-Pain of the Womb (Galen)
-Heart pain (Tibetan Medicine)

4. Resists Poison:

-Quartan Fever (Salmon)

Dose:

Taken with wine to move the Blood and relieve pain
Powder: 300–1500mg (up to 1 oz. was given in powder in the West)
Salmon said one-third of a whole dried and powdered Heart is taken as a dose.

Preparation:

After washing and removing the membranes, the best way to dry is to dip the fresh heart in alcohol or brandy, and hang to dry, repeating a number of times until thoroughly dried. To remove smell, prolong the shelf life and enhance efficacy, this can also be done with Tincture of Myrrh.
