Dang Gui (Chinese angelica)

Bai Shao (White Peony)

Paeonia lactiflora

Chuan Xiong (Sichuan lovage)

Ligusticum chuanxiong

9 grams ea.

Huang Qi (Astragalus)

Astragalus membranaceus

15 grams

Rou Gui (Cinnamon bark)

Cinnamomum cassia

6 grams

Preparation:

Prepared as a decoction; it is also used in pill form.

Function:

Tonifies Qi and Blood, Warms and clears Cold

Use:

Weakness, fatigue, lethargy, poor appetite, pale tongue with thin, white coat; weak, deep and possibly slow pulse
1. Fatigue with poor appetite
2. Anemia
3. Malnutrition
4. various chronic diseases with Qi and Blood de
ficiency and Cold
5. Chronic atropic Gastritis
6. Chronic cold and weak-type Cough
7. weak legs
8. Spermatorrhea
9. Excess Uterine Bleeding
10. aids post-surgical recovery
11. adjunct in Cancer treatment
12. supportive during chemo- and radiotherapy
13. Chronic non-healing sores, abscesses or ulcers

Dose:

The above is decocted to be taken over the course of the day. In pill or powder form, 9 grams 2 or 3 times daily.

Cautions:

1. Not used in Heat conditions; only used in deficient conditions.

Modifications:

1. With Liver Qi stagnation, add Cyperus rotundus and Bupleurum Chai Hu
2. Malnutrition, Emaciation, Chronic Illness, add Dioscorea Shan Yao
3. Spermatorrhea, add Cornus Shan Zhu Yu, Dioscorea Shan Yao and Schisandra Wu Wei Zi.
4. Fatigue with aches and pains of the muscles, add Cinnamon twig Gui Zhi


This is Ba Zhen Tang with Astragalus and Cinnamon added. Ba Zhen Tang is composed of Si Wu Tang (Blood tonic) and Si Jun Zi Tang (Qi Tonic). It therefore potently strengthens Qi and Blood while warming the body to clear Cold.
