Wu Zhu Yu (Evodia)

Rou Dou Kou (Nutmeg)

Myristica fragrans

Wu Wei Zi (Schisandra)

Schisandra chinensis

60 grams ea.

Preparation:

Powder, and cook with fresh Ginger (Sheng Jiang) 240 grams, and 100 Jujubes (Da Zao). When the Ginger and Jujubes are cooked, remove them and concentrate the decoction and form into Pills.
A concentrated decoction of fresh Ginger and Jujubes may be made, and this used to form the pills.
It is also prepared as a decoction.

Function:

Warms and Strengthens the Spleen and Kidneys, Stops Diarrhea

Use:

Diarrhea early in the morning, no appetite, cold and sore lower back, cold limbs, pale tongue with white coating, and a deep, slow pulse.
1. Chronic Diarrhea (especially early in the morning, called “Daybreak Diarrhea”)
2. Chronic Colitis
3. Chronic Dysentery
4. Ulcerative Colitis
5. Crohn’s Disease
6. Irritable Bowel Syndrome
7. Tuberculosis of the Intestines
8. Chronic Pancreatitis

Dose:

Take 9 grams of pills before bed with warm water, or salted water.

Cautions:

1. Not used for Heat-type Diarrhea
2. Not used for Food Stagnation
3. Avoid cold and raw foods and cold drinks while taking this formula.

Modifications:

1. Severe Coldness / Yang deficiency, take with You Gui Wan
2. Severe Stomach and Intestine Coldness, take with Li Zhong Wan.
3. Qi deficiency with lethargy, add Atractylodes Bai Zhu.
4. Cold pain in the lower abdomen, add Fennel seed (Xiao Hui Xiang), Cinnamon (Rou Gui)
5. Irritable Bowel Syndrome, take with Shen Ling Bai Zhu San.
6. Chronic Colitis, add Chebulic Myrobalan (He Zi)
7. With Rectal Prolapse, take with Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang
8. Ulcerative Colitis, add Atractylodes Bai Zhu, Codonopsis Dang Shen, Red Earth (Chi Shi Zhi), fried Licorice (Zhi Gan Cao)
