Preparation:

Clarify the juices by boiling gently and removing the scum; Renodeus said it is best to depurate the juices by sitting them in the Sun. Then add the Sugar and boil to a syrup.

Function:

Clears Heat from the Blood, opens the Liver, benefits the Stomach and Liver

Use:

1. Pox
2. Chronic Ulcers
3. Leprosy
4. Fever from Liver heat
5. Obstruction of the Liver; Hypochondriac pain
6. Hardness of the Liver or Spleen
7. Used to prepare the Melancholy Humor for Purging

Dose:

1–2 oz.

Comment:

Good “to open all obstructions of the Stomach, and of the Liver; for to strengthen the same also, and to cleanse the Blood, that thereby all scabbedness, and bad sores, and such like accidents may be suppressed, and avoided. Wherefore, they be also good against the Pocks, against all old Ulcers, Leprosy, and other such like diseases more”. (Wirtzung)
“It frees the Hypochondria from obstructions, mitigates Choler, prepares Melancholy succe [juice], and cures such Fevers as arise from the hot distemper of the Liver”. (Renodeus)
