Preparation:

Decoction. The shell is decocted for half an hour before adding the other herbs; Uncaria Gou Teng is added near the end.

Function:

Calms the Liver, settles Wind, clears Heat, benefits Liver and Kidneys

Use:

General pattern for this formula: Headache, dizziness, vertigo, tinnitus, blurred vision, insomnia, red tongue and a rapid pulse.

–commonly used for Hypertension)

11. Parkinson’s Disease
12. Trigeminal Neuralgia
13. Aphasia

Dose:

The above may be taken over the course of a day.
If prepared as a powder a dose of half–1 level teaspoonful 2 or 3 times daily is adequate.

Cautions:

1. This is overall a cooling formula and so is most suitable for Liver Heat conditions.

Modifications:

1. Antelope horn (Ling Yang Jiao) powder is taken with the decoction in severe cases.
