Myrrh

Commiphora molmol

2 oz.

Saffron

Crocus sativus

1 dram

Madder

Rubia tinctorum

1 oz.

Agrimony thickened juice

Agrimonia eupatoria

2 oz.

Preparation:

Powder the herbs, mix with the juice and form Troches.

Function:

Opens Obstructions, relieves Pain

Use:

1. Asthma
2. Shortness of Breath;
3. Liver obstruction
4. Hardness of the Liver
5.. Abdominal Masses or Tumors
6.
Obstruction of the Bowels

Dose:

1–2 drams in water and wine if there is no Fever (Heat), if there is Fever, in warm water. .

Cautions:

Not used during Pregnancy

Modifications:

1. Arum can be used in place of Birthwort
2. Agrimony extract can be used instead of the juice

This formula from the Syrian “Book of Medicines” bears the name of no author. However, we can see that it is simil;ar to several formulas of Mesue, and that it may be from him, or inspired by him.
