“They are commended in hot Fevers, and the hot distemper of the Liver and Ventricle [Stomach]; as also in inextinguishable thirst, and flux of the Belly [diarrhea]: they also accede the composition of the Electuary of Sea-leeks, according to Mesue’s description; who, according is his Interpreters traduction, calls them Trochisks of Oxyacantha: but they ingrede not the Electuary of Roses delivered by Mesue, as Foesius thinks. They are made in small quantity, because they serve most for other compositions,” (A Medicinal Dispensatory, Renou, 1657)
