Some of these are contemporary Unani formulas, listed in modern Unani Pharmacopoeias. Some of the following Unani formulas can be seen to be modifications of formulas of Mesue or Nicholas as used in Europe centuries ago, thus supporting the clinical relevance for the use of these formulas today.

Many Unani formulas are from Avicenna, Nicholas, Rhasis (Rhazes) and other famous Arab physicians. Unani medicine is effectively Islamic medicine today, most of the Physicians and patients being Muslim. Therefore it is interesting to note that Mesue, a Syrian Christian Physician, seems to be not as revered in the modern Unani medicine as he previously was in Europe, where he was known as the ‘Physicians Evangelist‘.
