Licorice

Glycyrrhiza glabra

Figs

Ficus carica

Preparation:

Decoct in 1 1⁄2 lbs. each of water and red wine; strain, and add 1 1⁄2 oz. of Simple Oxymel

Function:

Moves Blood, clears Heat, nourishes Yin and Qi, promotes Healing

Use:

1. Wounds and Bruising; especially in the Old or Weak
2. Bruising or Blood Stasis
3. Injury to the Lungs

Dose:

a cupful 2 or 3 times daily

Cautions:

None noted

Modifications:

The basic formula of Comfrey, Plantain, Marshmallow, Licorice and Figs may be used, adding other Vulnerary herbs according to need. This may include Yarrow, St. John’s wort, Sage, Madder, Rhubarb etc.
