Mu Li (Oyster shell)

Concha Ostrea

Zhe Bei Mu (Fritillaria)

Fritillaria thunbergii

equal parts

Preparation:

Powder and form Honey pills.
Can be prepared as a decoction with 9–12 grams of each of the herbs, decocting the shell for 45 minutes before adding the herbs.

Function:

Clears Heat, Clears Phlegm, Resolves Nodules

Use:

Nodes in the neck with a red tongue and rapid pulse.
1. Scrofula
2. Acute Lymphadenitis
3. Goiter
4. Hyperthyroidism
5. Thyroiditis
6. Hyperplasia of the Breast

Dose:

9 grams, 2–3 times daily.

Cautions:

Not used for Cold swellings

Modifications:

1. Hard nodules or Thyroiditis, add Kelp (Kun Bu), Sargassum (Hai Zao), Prunella (Xia Ku Cao)
2. Dryness of the mouth and throat, add Anemarrhena (Zhi Mu) and Paeonia Mu Dan Pi.
3. Liver Qi stagnation with tightness in the chest and distention of the hypochondrium, add Citrus Qing Pi and Bupleurum Chai Hu.
4. With excess Heat, add Coptis Huang Lian and Gardenia Zhi Zi.
5. Hyplerplasia of the Breast, take with Xiao Yao San.
