Shan Zhu Yu (Cornus fruit)

Du Zhong (Eucommia)

Eucommia ulmoides

Shu Di Huang (Rehmannia)

Rehmannia glutinosa

12–24 gms

Gou Qi Zi (Wolfberry fruit)

Lycium barbarum

Tu Si Zi (Dodder seed)

Cuscuta chinensis

12 grams ea.

Dang Gui (Chinese angelica)

Angelica sinensis

9 grams

Shan Yao (Chinese yam)

Dioscorea opposita

12 grams

Preparation:

Powder and prepare Honey pills. It may also be prepared as a decoction with the doses given above.

Function:

Warms the Kidneys, tonifies Yang, nourishes Essence, tonifies Blood

Use:

Formula pattern: Chronic weakness, exhaustion from chronic illness, cold extremities, lower back pain and weakness, loose stool, incontinence
1. Chronic Lower Back Pain; Degeneration of the Lumbar discs
2. Chronic Weakness due to Old age, Chronic disease or Convalescence
3. Infertility
4. Anovulation
5. Impotence
6. Incontinence
7. Edema
8. Chronic Anemia; Leukopenia
9. Addison’s Disease
10. Hyperaldosteronism
11. Hypothyroidism
12. Chronic Nephritis
13. Chronic Prostatitis
14. Delayed development in Children; Failure to Thrive; Learning di
fficulties
15. Diabetes
16. Multiple Sclerosis
17. Muscular Dystrophy
18. Systemic Lupus Erythematosus

Dose:

9–15 grams three times daily

Cautions:

1. Generally not used in Yin deficiency or Heat conditions

Modifications:

1. Ginseng makes this formula stronger and is necessary in marked Qi deficiency.
2. Chronic Diarrhea from Kidney Yang deficiency, add Schisandra Wu Wei Zi and Nutmeg
3. Stomach weakness with poor appetite and indigestion, add Dried Ginger.
4. Impotence, add Morinda Bai Ji Tian and Cistanches Rou Cong Rong
