Fu Ling (Poria)

Poria cocos

Mu Dan Pi (Tree peony root)

Paeonia suffruticosa

Ze Xie (Water Plantain root)

Alisma plantago-aquatica

9 grams ea.

Huang Bai (Amur cork-tree bark)

Phellodendron amurense

Zhi Mu (Anemarrhena)

Anemarrhena asphodeloides

6 grams ea.

Preparation:

Powder and form small pills with Honey. It can be prepared as a decoction using half or one-third of the above doses.

Function:

Nourish the Yin of the Liver and Kidneys, clears Deficient Heat

Use:

In all cases, there will be a dry, reddish and /or cracked Tongue with little coating; pulse is rapid and thin, with signs of dryness and heat, especially at night.
1. Steaming Bone Sensation (feeling of Heat deep in the Bones)
2. Night sweating
3. Tidal (Hectic) Fever; Restless legs at night; Heat in the palms and soles at night
4. Lower Back and Knee pain
5. Tuberculosis, Consumption, Wasting
6. Chronic Urinary diseases: chronic UTI, glomerulonephritis, chronic Nephritis
7. Various Chronic In
flammations and Infections: chronic Tonsillitis, chronic Urethritis, chronic UTIs, etc.
8. Hyperthyroidism, Diabetes, Addison’s disease
9. Menopausal Night sweats, Hot Flushes
10. Infertility, Sexual dysfunction
11. Prostatitis, chronic Benign Prostatic Hypertrophy
12. Useful after chronic steroid, thyroid hormone or reproductive hormone therapy to
help restore balance.

Dose:

9 grams of the pills, three times daily.

Cautions:

None noted

Modifications:

1. Chronic Sore Throat, add Scrophularia Xuan Shen and Licorice root.
2. Qi deficiency, add Astragalus Huang Qi and/or Ginseng.
3. Lower back pain add Achyranthes Niu Xi and Du Zhong Eucommia.

Comment:

This is the foundation formula for Deficient Heat (Heat from Yin deficiency) in TCM. It is a modification of Liu Wei Di Huang Wan, Rehmannia Six Pills.
